The DCU (Door Control Unit) by ThinLabs operates on the IEEE 802.3at+ Power over Ethernet (PoE) standard. This allows both electrical power and data to be transmitted over a single standard network cable, eliminating the need for separate power wiring and simplifying installation — particularly in environments where running dedicated electrical lines is impractical or costly.

The DCU supports cable runs of up to 100 meters from the PoE power source. This range is sufficient for most commercial and industrial deployments, allowing the unit to be positioned at the door without requiring a nearby dedicated power outlet. A managed network switch serves as the central connection point for power delivery and remote administration.
